Job Purpose

 

Plan, lead and execute Radiation Protection activities as per the regulatory requirements, operating policies and principles, nuclear standards for nuclear safety, industrial, and environmental protection, to ensure overall business performance objectives are achieved.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities (contd.)

Activity: 

Radiation Protection Shift

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:  

• Control and manage access to Radiologically Controlled Area (RCA), contaminated area, and high radiation area in accordance with Radiation Protection program standards; includes carrying items into/ out of these areas.

• Ensure the Radiation Work Permits are aligned with radiation protection requirements.

• Review, validate and conduct radiation survey to check personnel, equipment and the environment for radioactive contamination and ambient radiation, and provide input into RWP analysis. 

• Manage and guide use of personal Radiation Protection equipment including Health Physics Room equipment, Sample Counting Room equipment, dosimetry equipment, and portable radiation equipment to ensure high quality of all equipment and instrumentation. 

• Lead the conduct of proper control of hazardous materials and contamination of equipment in Radiologically Controlled Area to ensure safe operations. 

• Monitor personal contamination and perform personal decontamination to align with radiation safety requirements.

• Manage Radiation Protection during an emergency to meet Emergency Preparedness standards.

• Ensure prompt coordination for care of injured worker in Radiologically Controlled Area before evacuation to ensure exposure is minimized.

• Validate and check Radiation Monitoring System to ensure feedback is valid; check the Personal Contamination Monitor to ensure exposure is minimized.

• Lead and execute Liquid and Gaseous Radioactive Effluent Release as required to ensure compliance and minimize exposure. 

• Assess skin dose and internal dose results as required to monitor plant personnel radiation exposure.

• Verify all tasks are performed timely and with quality to achieve highest level of safety and reliability.

Staff Training and Qualification

Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 

• Participate in training to equip necessary technical knowledge and skills.

• Provide training feedback on program effectiveness with evaluation of operator performance to ensure quality.

Qualifications

QualificationMin: • Diploma 

• 5 years of relevant experience.

 

Or equivalent as stated in the Job Description Procedure (HR-PRC-0004).

 

QualificationMax: • 6 years of relevant experience, out of which:

- 1 year of experience in radiation safety area of a Nuclear Power Plant.
