Job Purpose

Provide technical expertise and guidance to ensure the proper handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive waste generated by Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP). Provide a critical advisory role in maintaining safety, regulatory compliance, and best practices in waste management. Become a trusted source of technical knowledge and expertise in radioactive waste management.

Key Activities, Responsibility & Accountability

•    Regulatory Compliance and Advocacy:
­    Provide technical expertise on regulations related to radioactive waste management.
­    Collaborate with the technical team to ensure the facility's compliance with these regulations.
•    Waste Strategy and Planning:
­    Provide technical expertise on the waste management strategy, focusing on operation and long-term planning for waste handling, storage, and decommissioning in line with ENEC disposal plan.
­    Provide technical expertise on assessments that align waste management activities with the BNPP’s evolving operational needs and regulatory obligations.
•    Waste Characterization Guidance:
­    Offer technical advice and expertise on the characterization and categorization of radioactive waste materials.
­    Provide technical input to ensure precise identification of waste types and radioactivity levels.
•    Waste Handling Best Practices:
­    Advise on best technical practices for the safe handling, packaging, and labeling of radioactive waste materials.
­    Ensure that technical safety protocols are followed to prevent contamination and protect workers and the environment.
•    Storage and Transportation Expertise:
­    Provide technical recommendations for the safe storage of radioactive waste within the facility.
­    Offer technical expertise on the technical aspects of waste transportation to approved disposal sites, optimizing logistics and safety.
•    Procedure Review:
­    Review and provide technical recommendations for improvements to procedures and protocols for radioactive waste management.
­    Focus on technical safety and regulatory compliance.
•    Radiation Protection Consultation:
­    Advise on technical strategies to minimize radiation exposure for personnel involved in waste management activities.
­    Offer technical guidance on the selection of protective equipment and exposure monitoring technologies.
•    Waste Minimization Strategies:
­    Offer technical expertise in identifying opportunities for waste minimization, segregation, and potential recycling or reprocessing.
­    Provide technical insight into innovative technologies and practices to reduce waste volume and associated hazards.
 

Responsibilities & Accountabilities (contd.)

•    Oversee the technical aspects of training programs and educational initiatives for staff involved in radioactive waste management.
•    Ensure that technical aspects of safety protocols are understood and followed.
•    Follow identified training needs to develop and enhance necessary technical knowledge and skills.
•    Provide training feedback on program effectiveness with evaluation of operator performance to enable improvement in training programs.
•    Endorse strong As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) principles and waste minimization to support plant objectivesFollow all relevant company’s Health and Safety policies, processes, procedures and instructions to ensure compliance in all aspects of work as per sound management practices. Apply these policies and procedures to self and others to ensure reasonable care of the health and safety of the employee; the environment; and various individuals who may be affected by the employee’s acts or omissions at work.
•    Follow all relevant Security policies, processes, procedures and instructions to ensure security compliance in all aspects of work, by applying them on self, others and Corporate assets.
•    Ensure compliance with corporate requirements for adherence to policies, procedures and instructions related to Crisis Management and Business Continuity in order to continue mission critical activities

Bachelor of Science Degree

Experience

12 years of relevant experience, out of which 4 years in a Managerial role.
