Job Purpose

Lead the implementation of radiation protection standards and provide supervision throughout the planning, execution and post close-out phases of radiation safety activities for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) as per the regulatory requirements, operating policies and principles, nuclear standards for nuclear safety, industrial safety, and environmental protection, to ensure overall business performance objectives are achieved. 

Key Activities, Responsibility & Accountability

Radiation Protection
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:  
•    Oversee radiation protection regarding decontamination and contaminated area survey during outages to ensure dose is As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).
•    Monitor on-hand (O/H) measure of radiation activity in controlled areas and oversee radiation work to ensure accurate and reliable dose measurement.
•    Lead the execution of transportation and storage of radioactive material during fuel assembly to ensure plant safety.
•    Ensure monitoring of Liquid Radioactive Waste Management at all times including night and during holidays, to ensure continuous and accurate measurement of radioactive materials.
•    Ensure monitoring of Liquid Scintillation Counter/Gamma/Low-level Alpha/Beta counter Operation to enable continuous and active measurement.
•    Lead the execution and maintenance of effluent control and monitoring process to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and commitment.
•    Lead the quality control and calibration of radioactivity detection equipment such as High Purity Germanium (HPGe), Liquid Scintillation Counter (LSC), Low Level Alpha/Beta Counter to ensure high quality instrumentation. 
•    Lead and instruct the operation and maintenance of radioactivity counting laboratory to provide safe and reliable analysis environment. 
•    Lead and instruct the operation and calibration of Radiation Monitoring System (RMS) and liaise with Maintenance on any malfunction and maintenance issue of the system to ensure proper radiological monitoring of the plant.
•    Lead operation of count room and lead radio analysis to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient plant operation.
•    Lead calibration high purity (HP) instrumentation to ensure accurate and reliable operation of equipment

Staff Training and Qualification
Responsibilities and Accountabilities: 
•    Verify that the required number of qualified resources are available to carry out the radiological protection functions of Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP).
•    Develop management expectations and communicate with department to ensure high level of safety and reliability of radiation safety.
•    Monitor, instruct, and evaluate staff performance to develop necessary training and improve performance.
•    Validate training programs provide necessary technical knowledge and skills to align with training requirements

Activity: 
Operational Planning
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•    Provide input into the development of the Department’s systems and processes, as well develop, and implement the Section’s procedures, identifying opportunities for the continuous improvement of practices to increase productivity and operational efficiency.
•    Monitor, control and report Operational and financial Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to the Section, to track performance and recommend corrective or mitigating actions.
•    Ensure that all relative reports are prepared timely and accurately, to meet the Section’s requirements and standards.

Professional Certifications

Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related Science.

Experience

6 years of relevant experience, out of which:
- 2 years is Nuclear Power Plant Experience.
- 6 months Participation in radiation protection activities at a Nuclear Power Plant.
