Job Purpose

The Data Governance Specialist role should excel in developing and implementing data governance frameworks, policies, and procedures. They should be proficient in collaborating with various departments to establish data standards, manage data quality, and oversee data stewardship activities. The candidate must be skilled in monitoring data usage, conducting audits, and providing training to promote best practices in data management. Ensuring data accuracy, accessibility, and protection will be crucial in supporting the organization's strategic objectives and decision-making processes

Key Activities, Responsibility & Accountability

Developing Data Governance Frameworks
•    Design and document data governance policies and procedures.
•    Establish data governance committees and roles.
•    Define data governance metrics and KPIs. Preferably use tools like of Tableau or Power BI for tracking and visualizing metrics.
•    Align data governance framework with organizational goals and strategies. 
•    Ensure continuous improvement of the data governance framework.
•    Ensure stakeholder buy-in and participation in governance committees.
Ensuring Data Quality and Integrity
•    Define data quality standards and benchmarks.
•    Conduct data profiling and quality assessments.
•    Implement data quality rules and validation processes, leveraging tools like Collibra or Informatica.
•    Ensure data quality standards are met across the organization.
•    Monitor the effectiveness of data quality rules and ensure timely resolution of data quality issues.
Collaborating with Stakeholders
•    Facilitate cross-functional team meetings on data governance.
•    Align data governance initiatives with departmental needs.
•    Set and enforce data standards across the organization.
•    Manage data-related risks in collaboration with stakeholders.
•    Communicate data governance policies and updates, ensuring effective communication and collaboration.
Monitoring and Auditing Data Systems
•    Conduct regular data audits to ensure compliance.
•    Monitor data systems for accuracy and integrity.
•    Report on the effectiveness of data governance initiatives.
•    Identify and address data governance issues.
•    Maintain audit logs and documentation, ensuring regular and thorough data audits.
Training and Educating Staff
•    Develop and deliver data governance training programs.
•    Provide ongoing support and resources for staff.
•    Act as a liaison between teams for data governance matters.
•    Promote best practices in data management.

Professional Certifications

Qualifications

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field

Experience

•    At least 7 years in data governance, data management, or a similar role.
•    Proficiency in data analysis and management
•    Strong problem-solving and communication skills
•    Ability to work with various departments (e.g., IT, Legal, Compliance) to ensure data governance policies are aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements
