Senior Environmental Monitoring Specialist

Job Purpose


Implement environmental monitoring requirements as described in the Operational Environmental Management Plan (OEMP), environmental permit, Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) policies and procedures and regulatory requirements.

Activity:
Environmental Management System (EMS)
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Implement and maintain environmental monitoring systems and conduct environmental monitoring, reporting, problem solving and other support activities to ensure compliance with the EMS, the OEMP, procedures, policies, and operational permit and regulatory requirements.
•Identify and quantify environmental operational risks and mitigating solutions to enhance compliance assurance.
•Review, implement and maintain environmental monitoring procedures and documents within Nawah's Integrated Management System (NIMS) to ensure alignment with the EMS and effective operations that are compliant with regulations and requirements.

OEMP and Permitting Support
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Coordinate external inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and requirements.
•Implement and maintain the OEMP and operating permit to ensure Nawah objectives and Environment Agency– Abu Dhabi (EAD) requirements are met.
•Review and update the environmental inspection procedure.
•Verify inspection findings to validate the gaps deviating from regulations of Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD) or other regulatory entities.

Operational Preparedness Support
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Support other functions within Nawah and Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) by providing environmental monitoring input to ensure that environmental requirements are integrated across the organization.
•Provide technical input and expertise to key organizations including:Licensing, Engineering, and ENEC Health Safety and Environment (HSE).

Planning, Project Management and Coordinationt
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Coordinate environmental monitoring projects, initiatives and consultant activity to ensure enterprise objectives are met.
•Coordinate with the appropriate resources to complete the necessary actions and documentation required for environmental support.
•Provide assistance in preparation of business plans and contract administration and invoice verification, including for outsourced lab work, to align with internal business objectives.

Environmental Monitoring
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Verify that plant effluents, marine and other monitoring is completed as required by the OEMP and the operational permit and assist as required.
•Verify that monitoring equipment and systems are in place and working effectively.
•Prepare data and interpret results to produce periodic environmental performance reports.

Marine Ecology
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Verify the collected chemical, physical and marine ecological data to determine potential acute, acute and chronic effects from the environment on the plant operations of plant operations on the local marine ecology.
•Assess marine ecological studies and reports prepared by consultancies in terms of conclusions and methodologies used.
•Execute OEMP revisions and regulatory reporting regarding marine ecology aspects.
•Provide input into environmental programs including Environmental Management System (EMS), Compensatory Management Program (CMP), Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP), air, water, storm water, endangered species, fish counting, etc.to align with program requirements.

Preferred
International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 Lead Auditor

Minimum
•Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science.
•5 years of relevant experience.

Or equivalent as stated in the Job Description Procedure (HR-PRC-0004).

Preferred
•Postgraduate degree in environmental field.
•4 years' experience in a senior environmental role in a complex industrial setting or environmental consultancy in UAE or nuclear power plants.
