Senior Chemistry Specialist

Job Purpose


Develop and maintain all Chemistry programs, processes, and procedures to ensure adherence to and alignment with regulatory standard. Implement governance and oversight activities throughout the planning, execution, and operational phases of Chemistry function for the Barakah Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP).

Activity:
Chemistry Governance and Oversight
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Oversee all BNPP Chemistry activities and prepare oversight assessments to achieve the highest level of safety and reliability.
•Develop and maintain all Chemistry programs, processes, and procedures to maintain operational excellence and ensure adherence to and alignment with regulatory standard.
•Review and monitor periodic and/or unscheduled activities including surveillance and check of Chemistry systems and equipment to ensure the highest standards of conduct.

Plant Support
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Provide input and recommendations for the key Chemistry program decisions to improve plant performance with regards to Chemistry Systems.
•Identify any potential issues, analyze cause and effects in accordance with the Primary and Secondary Water Chemistry Program and take appropriate actions according to action levels to ensure safe operations:
- Develop appropriate strategy to maintain primary component and nuclear fuel integrity or steam generator integrity.
- Oversee preventive maintenance of the plant primary or secondary system to ensure operational excellence.
•Provide support to the plant organization in preparation and conduct of World Association of Nuclear Operator (WANO) and Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) evaluations to excel in evaluation and ensure feedback is appropriately implemented.
•Provide support in the creation and management of the Chemistry budget and Business Plan as needed.

Program Standardization
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Monitor execution of Chemistry function, including its program, processes and procedures for BNPP to ensure standardization across all BNPP units.

Reporting
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Develop periodic data review graphs and reports such as the Chemistry Trend to analyze plant performance and look for improvement opportunities.
•Prepare chemistry periodic reports for management oversight to assist in safe operations.
•Prepare chemistry Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) report to upgrade the performance of the facilities to ensure alignment with standards.
•Identify urgent and emerging issues to line management to ensure expedient mitigation.

Staffing Training and Qualification
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Provide input and recommendations to the Chemistry management in setting strategic goals, management expectations, and communicating in and out of the Chemistry function, to ensure a high level of safety and reliability of plant systems.
•Provide input and recommendations to the Chemistry Management regarding the evaluation of performance of individual staff members and carry out mentoring and coaching initiatives to improve performance.
•Provide technical mentoring to UAE nationals for Emiratization regarding Chemistry.
•Support training and qualification of Chemistry Engineer Designees.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Follow all relevant company's Health and Safety policies, processes, procedures and instructions to ensure compliance in all aspects of work as per sound management practices.Apply these policies and procedures to self and others to ensure reasonable care of the health and safety of the employee; the environment; and various individuals who may be affected by the employee's acts or omissions at work.

•Follow all relevant Security policies, processes, procedures and instructions to ensure security compliance in all aspects of work, by applying them on self, others and Corporate assets.
XFollow all relevant Business Continuity and Resilience requirements for compliance with, and adherence to, policies, procedures and instructions related to the effective planning for, and response to, incidents or business disruptions in order to continue critical business processes and activities with minimal adverse impact.

•Bachelors degree in Engineering or related Science.
•5 years of relevant experience.

Or equivalent as stated in the Job Description Procedure (HR-PRC-0004).

•APR-1400 or OPR-1000 experience.
