Job Purpose


Monitor and manipulate plant controls to achieve a high level of safety and reliability of the Barakah Nuclear Power Plants (BNPP) in accordance with all operating procedures & policies, regulatory requirements, and nuclear, industrial, and environmental protection standards ensuring overall business performance objectives are achieved.

Plant Operation
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Assess plant conditions and at the direction of shift management, implement appropriate actions and controls of all activities affecting core reactivity to mitigate events and resolve issues.
•Monitor Main Control Room indicating parameters and trends, updating the operating crew of adverse conditions, and taking prompt action if required to stabilize the plant.
•Conduct a thorough inspection of all areas assigned within responsibilities at designated times to check that equipment is operating properly and standby equipment is fully capable of being operated.
•Monitor equipment performance to identify trends, detect abnormal and adverse conditions, and communicate those trends to shift management.
•Monitor plant response during refueling outage activities to ensure the core is responding as expected while moving fuel assemblies into and out of the vessel.
•Provide direction to (and monitor) Local Operators to perform plant manipulations outside the Main Control Room.
•Check plant and crew performance on a day-to-day basis and perform periodic assessments to identify areas for improvement.
•Conduct comprehensive reviews of written records, logs, equipment and control board information throughout the shift including turnovers to understand how plant equipment is performing.
•Develop or implement equipment clearance orders in support of maintenance or testing.
•Comply with all plant procedure and policies, technical specification and regulatory requirements to achieve a high level of safe and reliable operations.
•Partake in and contribute to pre-job briefings prior to plant activities including surveillances, maintenance activities/troubleshooting, special tests and infrequently performed evolutions to ensure safety and alignment around the desired outcomes and planned execution.
•Prepare written records, logs, equipment, and control board information throughout the shift including turnovers to facilitate understanding of how plant equipment is performing.
•Keep continuous familiarity with plant operating instructions, noting any change or modification that is made in them as a result of design, plant status, or other requirements to ensure safe plant operation.
•Execute additional technical or administrative tasks as directed by shift management to support plant operations.
•Follow plant procedures, technical specification requirements, sound operating practices, proper industrial safety, radiological protection, communications, and quality assurance practices to ensure safe and reliable plant operation.
•Perform according to operator guidelines in case of normal, abnormal and emergency conditions to ensure safety and operational excellence.

Training and Qualification
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Comply with identified Initial and Requalification (Requal) training to obtain and maintain the required knowledge level, skills, and proficiency of a Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) Certified Reactor Operator.
•Provide continuous improvement training feedback on program effectiveness to enhance overall program effectiveness.

Outage and Emergency Response Organization (ERO) Support
Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
•Support outage and/or the ERO, as assigned, to ensure safe, reliable and continued operations; this may require shift work/off hours support.

Professional Certifications

Minimum
N/A

Preferred
•Currently hold or previously held PWR Reactor Operator License/Certification from a relevant nuclear regulatory authority.
•FANR Reactor Operator Certification.

Qualifications

Minimum
•High school Equivalent certification for completion of study in basic math, science and literacy skills or Higher Diploma for Nuclear Technology (HDNT).
•2 years of relevant experience.

Preferred
•Over 3 years of nuclear power plant experience.
•6 months on-site experience at BNPP.
